The following is an urgent note for a preservation opportunity for this famous house.
Hi All,
We’re reaching the zero hour for Peter Eisenman’s House II in Hardwick, Vermont. I spoke with the owner yesterday, and he is willing to sell the house and 15 acres for $425,000 to anyone who will save the house. If it doesn’t sell, he has a buyer ready to purchase it for the land only, demolish House II, and build a new home on the site. The buyer wants to close by the end of June so he can start demolition this summer.
Is there anything DOCOMOMO-US can do to publicize this immediate threat and let folks know that house can be purchased for $425,000? The price has never been this low, reflecting the owner’s desire to avoid demolition. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please put them in contact with me ASAP.
