Have you been looking for a Mid-Century Modern home with a generous sunny yard in a neighborhood with a community pool? Here is a larger version of the typical Peacock Farm-style house in Lexington’s Turning Mill Neighborhood. 19 Dewey Road is a Walter Pierce-designed house, with variations of the typical floor plan. Two entrances in the front of the house offer a choice of coming in through the first level slate-floored first level, or up into the main living area. The warm hardwood floors, soaring ceilings, huge windows, and open floor plan are just some of the key features of Pierce’s pioneering and award-winning design that we love. The fireplace is against the kitchen wall, allowing a wider and more open living room than the usual Peacock Farm houses. The abundant natural light that streams through the big windows of this classic post-and-beam home creates the indoor-outdoor symbiosis that discerning Mid-Century Modern appreciate. Highlights include four bedrooms, an office, refinished hardwood floors, as well as new interior and exterior paint, a laundry room, and an unfinished basement with utilities and lots of room for storage (not the more typical crawl space). With bonded membership in the Paint Rock neighborhood pool and close proximity to the young Estabrook School, the Turning Mill neighborhood is highly desirable. See below for sellers’ “Home History.”

This house was built in 1961 for sellers as one of the last Peacock houses in this neighborhood. Seller
added the following customizations:
– Flagstone downstairs hall – they collected the flagstones and had them installed by the builder
before completion.
– Stairs – were lengthened so they were less steep than in the original design. This made the
house approximately 2’ longer than similar houses
– Fireplace – At Sellers’ request, the fireplace was installed against the kitchen wall, enlarging
the living room.
– Sellers carefully collected a wide selection of rhododendrons (including PJMs), mountain
laurel, and azaleas and installed them around the house. They bloom throughout the spring into
summer.
